Marseille 0 – 3 Atlético Madrid – Atlético Madrid win Europa League. Atlético Madrid win their third Europa League and it’s fully deserved. Antoine Griezmann scored twice as Atletico Madrid swept aside Marseille to win the Europa League for the third time in nine years.

France forward Griezmann opened the scoring by punishing Andre Zambo Anguissa’s poor touch to coolly slot home, then dinked in a casual second. Antoine Griezmann has scored 30 goals for Atletico Madrid this season.

Captain Gabi drilled in the third goal late on as Atletico again lifted the trophy they also won in 2010 and 2012. The outcome could have been different had Marseille forward Valere Germain taken an early chance, but Griezmann’s lethal finishing allowed Atletico to take control.

Marseille skipper Dimitri Payet, who was an injury doubt before the game, lasted just half an hour before hobbling off in tears. Without their inspirational midfielder, the French side caused Atletico just one major scare as ex-Fulham striker Kostas Mitroglou headed against the post.

  1. 21′ 0 – 1 Antoine Griezmann scores! Textbook Atletico – they’ve been on the back foot and now they’re ahead. It’s a terrible mistake by Marseille. Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda plays the ball to Andre Zambo Anguissa, but he’s half asleep and loses possession to Gabi. The midfielder plays a first-time pass to Antoine Griezmann, who is basically free in the centre and he makes no mistake.
  2. 49′ 0 – 2 Antoine Griezmann doubles their lead. Game over. You can all go home. Atletico won’t blow this. Antoine Griezmann has his second goal of the game in his homeland against his compatriots. It’s a great pass by Koke to play in the striker and he just clips the ball over France team-mate Steve Mandanda. Wonderful finish.
  3. 89′ 0 – 3 Gabi makes it three-nil. The captain has sealed the win! Antoine Griezmann plays a delicious ball through to Diego Costa, but he’s too slow to speed away. He does hold it up however and finds Saul. Saul doesn’t even need a second to think, he immediately plays it first time to midfield partner Gabi and he smashes the ball past Steve Mandanda into the corner of the net.
